Gets the job done for Coalville North Cllr Dr Terri Eynon, Labour Candidate for Coalville North
Cllr Dr Terri Eynon, Labour Candidate for Coalville North

Terri Eynon, a retired Hugglescote GP, has lived in Coalville since the mid-1990s. She was first elected to represent Coalville on the County Council in 2013.

Terri worked alongside the Friends of Snibston in their valiant attempt to save Snibston Discovery Museum. Undaunted by its closure in 2015, Terri continued to insist that the site reopen, and the heritage be retained. This campaign has finally paid off. Despite Covid-19, the refurbished Snibston Colliery Park partly reopened in late 2020. The Friends became the Snibston Heritage Trust and now work in partnership with the County Council. Terri supports their applications for charitable funding so the work can continue.

Another of Terri’s early campaigns has also paid off. In 2013 County Highways had a plan to allow cars to travel faster along Grange Road and Ashburton Road by widening Hugglescote Crossroads. This would have meant demolishing Hugglescote Community Centre. Terri worked with the Cross-Roads Action Group (CRAG) and Hugglescote Parish Council to quash this idea. Together they proved that most of the excess traffic came from drivers avoiding congestion on the A511. County Highways are now looking at a £49M Government funded scheme to improve the A511. This should keep through traffic on the main road where it belongs.

Since retiring, Terri has been studying for an MA in Literary Linguistics at Nottingham University. During the first wave of the pandemic she took time out from her studies to support the NHS Covid-19 Clinical Assessment Service. She returned to her studies after the first wave settled and graduated with Distinction in December 2020. She now lends her copywriting, proof-reading and editing skills to various community groups in the area.
