At a meeting of the full Council on Tuesday 4th November the North West Leicestershire Labour Group criticised the Conservative–Liberal Democrat Alliance repeatedly bringing forward motions that fail to address the pressing issues facing residents — from housing and public services to the cost-of-living crisis. Instead, these motions have focused on national political point-scoring and symbolic gestures that do nothing to improve the lives of local people.

John Legrys Leader of the Labour Group, said:
“Residents expect their elected councillors to focus on what matters most — cleaner streets, decent homes and strong local services. Instead, we’ve seen the Conservative and Lib Dem alliance wasting hours of council time to showboat and grandstand about national political debate, purely for their own advantage. Our staff time, paper, and energy should not be wasted on this pointless theatre.
Local government should be about delivering for our communities, not playing party politics with national issues.”
The Labour Group is calling for the council to focus on practical action that supports local families and businesses, including tackling housing shortages, protecting essential services, and driving local economic growth.
John Legrys added:

Labour councillors will continue to stand up for local people and ensure the council’s time and resources are used where they can make a real difference. ”
