- North West Leicestershire will benefit from a new Youth Hub, bringing together careers advice, skills training, employment support and wellbeing services for local people aged 16–24.
- Part of the Government’s £2.5 billion Youth Guarantee, the expanded network of Youth Hubs will help more young people access work, apprenticeships, education and training opportunities.
- The investment will help to continue breaking down the barriers to opportunity for young people, ensuring everyone has the best start in life, no matter their background.
Young people across North West Leicestershire are set to benefit from expanded employment, training and wellbeing support, following the Government’s confirmation that it will be among the next areas to receive a new Youth Hub.
The new hub forms part of the Government’s nationwide expansion of Youth Hubs, designed to ensure every young person can access personalised support to help them move into education, employment or training. The programme is backed by a £2.5 billion investment through the Government’s Youth Guarantee.
Youth Hubs provide a range of services tailored to local needs, including careers guidance, links to employers with live vacancies and apprenticeships, housing advice, mental health support and access to training opportunities. They are designed to bring services into community settings such as libraries, colleges, sports clubs and other local venues, making support easier to access.
Amanda Hack MP for North West Leicestershire, welcomed the announcement, saying:
“Every young person deserves the opportunity to build a successful future, regardless of where they live or their background. This new Youth Hub will bring together careers advice, skills training, mental health support and employment opportunities under one roof, helping young people in North West Leicestershire gain the confidence, qualifications and experience they need to get on in life.
“Having previously worked in employment and skills alongside young people, I have seen firsthand how tailoring support can make a real difference in helping them secure jobs and access better opportunities in life. This new Youth Hub will make a material difference to local lives, bringing personalised support closer to home and making it more accessible than ever before.”
Work and Pensions Secretary Pat McFadden said:
“We want to make sure young people are getting real, personalised support, that’s not one size fits all. I’ve seen how it can change lives. Our Youth Hubs have over the past two years pioneered this approach – bringing job centre services together with mental health support, housing advice and more. I want to turbocharge this rollout so that every young person has this support within reach that can help them move into learning or earning.”
The expansion is part of a wider effort to tackle youth unemployment and ensure young people can access opportunities close to home. The Government’s ambition is for every young person to be within one hour of a Youth Hub by public transport, helping connect them with the support they need to move into work, apprenticeships or further learning.
The new hub complements wider Government action to support young people into work. Businesses can receive a £3,000 Youth Jobs Grant for every 18- to 24-year-old hired who has been claiming Universal Credit for six months, while small businesses can access a £2,000 apprenticeship incentive for each new employee aged 16 to 24.
